PROGRAMMES

HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) NURSING

The programme is meant to produce nurses who can perform the caring art with a scientific backing to improve on the quality of life. The graduate is equipped with caring for:

• Mothers and babies (Maternity Nursing)
• Caring for children (Paediatric Nursing).
• Caring for adults, sick or well (Adult Health Nursing).
• And caring for the Old (Geriatric Nursing)

Specific objectives

At the end of the programme, the individual registers into National Order of Nurses, Midwives and Health Technician and is able to:

  • Work efficiently in any community, health centre, hospital or allied health institution.
  • Complement research activities in Nursing where need be.
  • Use critical thinking and scientific principles in patient/client care.
  • Function in holistic care at in and out patient department.

Programme Structure

A three year programme

  • Year one is for basic sciences and introduction to basic nursing
  • Year two is a continuation of basic nursing concepts and application to different types of patients.
  • Year Three introduces the various areas of specialization in nursing and what the nursing care requires. It ends with 5 months period of internship for perfection of clinical nursing skills and a research project.

CONDITION FOR ADMISSION      

(THE WAY IN)

Entrance into the Institution is through a competitive examination for students who have the G.C.E Advance level or its equivalent (religion exclusive). This examination is organized by the Institution.

THE WAY OUT

The Institution runs the programs for three years and upon completion of these three years the students write a Diploma Examination organize by the Ministry of Higher Education to obtain the HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) in the chosen specialty.

HND IN MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE

At the end of the program the Medical Laboratory Science graduate should be:

• Capable of using wide range of existing biomedical science  techniques without discrimination and understanding.
• Confident in initiating and leading the health team in laboratory based research activities.
• Instrumental towards the development of new biomedical techniques.

BACHELORS DEGREE (LICENCE PROFESIONELLE)

Entrance into the B.Sc program is by Selection.
Entry requirement: HND (DSEP) or its equivalence

RESEARCH AND COOPERATION

St. Francis Higher Institute of Nursing and Midwifery has signed a partnership agreement with the University of Buea.
At the end of the training the individual registers in to the National Order of Nurses, Midwives and Health Technicians.
